e-learning 2022: Upwards and Onwards

What the 2022s will bring to the e-Learning market cannot be entirely predicted, as we’re only standing at the very beginning of what is sure to be an exciting journey of innovation and technological change. What we do know, however, is that eLearning is set to continue growing and increasing in popularity as companies, schools and organisations flock towards remote access options and hire agencies to get in on this success.

Here at TheLearning LAB in Geneva, Switzerland, we are very excited to see what the next wave of changes in eLearning development and user-experience design will bring to the table. There is, of course, an element of educated foresight when it comes to what we are expecting to see in the next years - you don’t spend years as a dedicated agency within an industry without developing a sense of what comes next - so we are able to let you in on one of our predictions right here!

As for the exact progression of eLearning this coming decade, much of will come down to ‘only time can tell’. By the end of the 2022 we will surely see learning innovation and technology which we cannot even conceive of yet now. What we do know, however, is that keeping up, or catching up, with your competitors will become harder as time ticks on - unless your organisation decides to get into the eLearning game sooner rather than later. And for that, there is TheLearning LAB. Our elearing agency has worked with major organisations whose eLearning needs are complex and sophisticated (see a list of our clients here), and there is nothing we cannot handle. It is a 360° service which adapts to the ever-changing trends and does the heavy lifting for you.

This is why you need an agency: you are the expert of your niche, we are the expert of the eLearning niche! Through partnership, the best of both worlds can thrive in the form of online training.

So, what is going to happen in the near future?

Well, a steady stream of eLearning-primed potential employees will be entering into the workforce!

Measuring the impact of eLearning courses has been a telling metric from its inception, primarily indicating whether the online learning process is having a positive effect on the company’s bottom line and is providing sufficient return on investment. Over time, as the use of eLearning augmented in the workplace, the user experience and satisfaction and retention of employees became very important measurements of the Learning Impact.

No company wishes to break employees into the workplace and show them the ropes only to lose them to another company shortly afterwards.

We are now at a new strategic turning point: we are soon going to see a new generation of employees entering into the workforce whose experience with eLearning started during their secondary education and university years. They are fully accustomed to using online training tools, know the ins and outs of how it works, and have high expectations when it comes to quality, interactivity and innovation. In addition, they have an expectation that professional development will not only be accessible, but actually recommended, within the workplace.

Organisations wishing to attract these tech-savvy graduates will need to showcase both their learning opportunities and their ability to upskill employees in a meaningful, consequential fashion. Investing in mobile learning is crucial to success at this point, and those companies who choose to wing it without providing this type of skills-development to their workforce are in for a difficult period of time. A more educated workforce in the specifics of your field means having a more powerful organisation, capable of tackling all the challenges and intricacies of your speciality. When all your staff or members are trained, there are no weak links, and the internal machinery of your business will run smoothly. And all of this thanks to providing them training they can do whenever, from wherever, with the use of their mobile devices. Sounds like a win, doesn’t it? There are no clear downsides to online training services, other than the fact that you have to initially invest in it but only reap the results after a period of time.

Those results, however, are worth the investment manyfold.

Online training exists for more than familiarising employees with the company rules and regulations, safety procedures and other company-wide content. It can be as niche and specific as the most intricate roles within your organisation, as any good elearning course is tailor-made to the specifications of your company’s needs. Agencies such as TheLearning LAB are responsible for making the user experience smooth, the platforms reliable and the entire experience a boost to employee morale. Not all agencies can pull this off, however, but our track record speaks for itself!

What if you have great employees wanting to move laterally within the ranks of the company? Since they became a part of your organisation, they’ve grown, learned, and found their passion. Being able to demonstrate an ability to also retrain employees as they develop their niche is another plus. This type of on-the-job growth and retraining fosters loyalty; employees who see their employer genuinely invest in their future abilities and success, and therefore as more than just a cog in the bigger machine that is the company, are more likely to develop a long-term working relationship with the company rather than view it as a stepping stone to somewhere better.

Now, back to the incoming tech-savvy young adults; if companies do manage to hire this new generation of jobseekers despite a lack of professional development opportunities, they are likely to fail in terms of retention. This new generation may sign up for a less-than-ideal job to help them get started, but once those newcomers lay their base foundation of workplace experience and develop their confidence, they will seek employment elsewhere and prioritise opportunities which provide professional development.

To bring a long story back to basics: now is the right time to get ahead of the problem, before it actually begins to affect your organisation’s hiring potential.
